INFANT SCHOOL AND PRIMARY SCHOOL
THE DOGE’S SKY
An active tour based on a tale with the same characters of Giambattista Tiepolo’s fresco on the ceiling of the Ball Room. Every pupil wears a costume and accessories and plays the role of one of the characters painted in the fresco.
Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes (children from 5 to 7 years).
1ST GRADE PRIMARY SCHOOL AND SECONDARY SCHOOL
A MUSEUM TO BE READ
The active tour is planned with an introduction to the pleasure of reading as means of knowledge. The archive, which conserves ancient documents, and the library, intended as historical memory of the museum, become ‘workshops’ (reading an ancient document, passages of literary works connected to Villa Pisani, filling forms) where to foster reading for learning and research.
Duration: 2 hours (from 8 to 10 years).
AT VILLA PISANI WITH DOGE ALVISE
An enthralling team game inside one of the most important halls, aims at letting know the history of the Villa and of Pisani Family. The winner team will conquer the doge position and take part in the solemn oath ceremony.
Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes (from 9 to 12 years).
THE ARTIST’S STUDIO. FRESCO TECNIQUE
The workshop allow the pupils to learn and try the fresco technique during its different stages. They visit the Ball Room, whose ceiling was painted by Giambattista Tiepolo and then the make a small artefact, using the traditional material of artists’ studios.
Duration: 3 hours (from 8 to 13 years).
THE MAGIC OF COLOURS: CANVAS PAINTING
Workshop to learn history, theory and technique of canvas oil painting. Every pupil, using binding oil and coloured pigments, makes his own artefact on a small canvas.
Duration: 2 hours and 30 minutes (from 8 to 13 years).
TO WATCH, TO FEEL AND TO INTERPRET TIEPOLO
An active tour in the Ball Room where on the ceiling Giambattista Tiepolo painted the famous fresco “The Glory of the Pisani Family”. A short note helps the pupils, in small groups, to pick out objects and characters, to examine the structure, and to interpret the feelings artist suggests.
Duration: 1 hour (from 9 to 13 years).
LANDSCAPE PAINTING: THE MEANING OF NATURE REPRESENTED
A tour of some rooms and of the corridors of the villa gives the opportunity to read paintings and prints which offer images of the countryside in Veneto and of the gardens, as they were “lived” in the eighteenth century. Studying some paintings of the museum pupils can have a more profound knowledge of landscape painting.
Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes (from 9 to 13 years).
2ND GRADE SECONDARY SCHOOL
THE TIEPOLOS IN THE VILLA
The tour shows the activity of Giambattista and Giandomenico Tiepolo as fresco painters when working for the richest patrons. First a short introduction and slide projection and then a tour to the Ball Room with the analysis of the frescoes.
Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes.
MONOCHROME PAINTING OF GIANDOMENICO TIEPOLO
The tour explains the particular technique of monochrome fresco by Giandomenico Tiepolo for the decoration of the Ball Room. The artist used one chromatic tone in its chiaroscuro gradations and created a three-dimensional bas-relief effect. During the active stage of the workshop every pupil makes a small monochrome fresco.
Duration: 3 hours.
THE APOTHEOSIS OF THE PISANI FAMILY: from the coping of the façades to Tiepolos’ frescoes in the Ball Room
The aim of the tour is to explain the allegorical meaning of Tiepolos’ frescoes in the Ball Room, also connected to the statues on the coping of the façades. Pupils are asked to contribute to the interpretation of the allegories, using short notes.
Duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes.
THE ART AS POLITICAL PROPAGANDA: Napoleonic apartments at Villa Pisani
Choosing subjects, modes and forms, art has always been transmitting messages, sometimes strong political messages. A clear example are Napoleonic apartments at Villa Pisani, a magnificient neoclassical-style manifesto of Napoleon Empire. Student, while visiting the rooms, are asked to decipher decoration, thus learning a way to understand many other historical and artistic periods.
Duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes.
ON THE TRACK OF GABRIELE D’ANNUNZIO AND ELEONORA DUSE: analysing “The Flame of Life” in the place it was set
The tour allows to relive the visit of Gabriele D’Annunzio and Eleonora Duse at the Villa in 1897, which inspired a passage of the novel “The Flame of Life”. A short introduction with projection of slides, then the tour of the villa and of the garden, where students have to identify the different places according to the passages of the novel and to the poet’s pocketbooks.
